The location was perfect for the repast after my aunt’s funeral services. Sean was an excellent host and was accommodating throughout the entire process. My guest were set-up in the backyard with catered food and music, with access to the entire house. Parking permits were available with plenty of available parking in front and within close proximity of the house. Everything was absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend this location. Thank you, Sean!

We had a last minute need for a location to a host a service for my friend's mom passing. It was an opportunity for the family to get together and celebrate her life. Anithea went above and beyond for our event. She also did most of the setup for us so when we arrived on site there was very little to do. She had chairs for us, a laptop setup, candles and a table. It was the attention to detail that made this place such a perfect venue for our event. I would recommend this location to anyone. In addition to the wonderful setup, Anithea was there to assist and support for last minute questions and needs we had during the event. Most definitely a top notch host. We cannot thank her enough for all the attention, thought and preparation that went into setting things up for us. We thought we were just going to get a spot and have to do all the set up. Thank you again on behalf of the family :)

Things to Consider for a Memorial in Boston

Is Boston really the ideal location for a meeting or celebration of life? Check out some of the pros and cons before you decide where to go to pay tribute to a loved one.

Advantages

  • Boston, the capital of Massachusetts and the cultural hub of New England, is packed with history and impressive architecture, so expect to find places that feel incredibly dignified, like old chapels and historic buildings, that make fantastic venues for a memorial gathering.

  • In Boston, you're not stuck with just one type of venue. Whatever you're in the mood for or a vibe you like—be it serene and quiet or love lively and traditional—each neighborhood has locations with distinct vibes and character.

  • If family and friends are coming from all over, Boston is a major city with a large airport (Logan!) and excellent public transportation. It's generally easier for people to get to than a more rural location, and there are countless hotel rooms to stay in.

Disadvantages

  • It's no secret that Boston isn't cheap. If you prefer a good venue with quality amenities or a prime location, be prepared to spend more.

  • If you're considering renting an outdoor space, you'll need a backup venue if the weather turns against you.

  • Some event spaces may have too much of a light-hearted or fun atmosphere for the style of memorial you want to hold.

The Best Type of Venue for a Memorial in Boston

North, south, east, and west—you'll find great event spaces across Boston, including special spots like Spacious Executive Conference Room in Boston. And while there are wonderful venues like the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on offer, you'll find a host of unique and affordable spaces to explore in greater Boston with Giggster. Here are just some of the popular locations worth checking out.

  • Bars – Drink a Toast. From cocktail receptions to memorials, bars are wonderfully versatile venues. If funerals and traditional life honoring ceremonies are too heavy and formal for your family, a bar with a cozy or classic Boston feel offers a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, where everyone might feel more at ease sharing stories.

  • Gardens – Garden Goodness. Gardens are serene and peaceful, and perhaps that's what you're looking for in a memorial gathering. You have the scenic nature around you as your backdrop, and you get to enjoy fresh air if things get a bit stuffy.

  • Chapels – Timeless Charm. Chapels offer a beautiful setting for a poignant and traditional send-off, and they're a good choice if you want your memorial reception to be a religious affair.

  • Art Galleries – Sophisticated Setting. Saying goodbye to a creative type or someone who loved all things art? An art gallery is your best bet to see them off in style.

  • Studios – Flexible Spaces. Studios aren't just for film and photo shoots—they're also easy to tailor to your needs when you want to hold anything from memorials to concerts.

Planning a Memorial in Boston

Planning and hosting events can often be hard and stressful work. Use the steps below to guide you through the planning process to organize a memorable and historic moment to share with friends and family.

Know the Right Style – Start by thinking about the style of service you want to host. Whose life are you remembering, and what sort of personality did they have? Is it going to be a somber affair, or do you want to aim for a slightly more upbeat atmosphere?

Check the Capacity – How many people are you expecting to attend the service? This will impact not only the city location you choose but also how much money you set aside for expenses like catering and furniture hire.

Choose an Event Venue – Compare memorial spaces in Boston to find the ideal location for your service. Whether you need a site with easy access from Logan Airport, a rich history, a ground floor location, capacity to accommodate a large number of guests, views that showcase the area's natural beauty, a rural location in the country, interesting art on the walls, or anything else, look for a space with all your must-haves.

Organize Food and Drink – Make sure you can serve refreshments to all your guests to help create a convivial atmosphere, and there may also need to be a well-stocked bar on hand to ensure that you and your guests can drink a toast to the dearly departed.

Consider Other Resources You Need – If you need to rent extra tables, chairs, or additional furniture for your event space, organize a live performance, or even hire AV gear, you must do so as soon as possible and not wait until the last minute.

How to Save Money on a Memorial in Boston

A fitting tribute doesn't have to break the bank. You and your planning team can use the following tips to help cut costs when planning a service.

Compare before choosing.

Don't just choose the first place that catches your eye. Make sure to shop around and compare a wide range of memorial spaces in Boston to find not only a convenient location but also the most affordable one.

Be flexible with the date and time.

Compare prices to find out if you can save money by holding the event on a weekday rather than a weekend. Consider off-peak times as well to help maximize your savings potential.

Keep it simple.

No amount of fancy decorations, gourmet catering menus, and flashy video presentations can ever truly do justice to the life of someone you loved. So instead of spending big on all the trimmings, stick to a simple yet meaningful service and focus on all your wonderful memories of the departed loved one.
