Amy who runs the front is the best, she made the entire experience seamless. Mark and his team have a wonderful staff and a beautiful space to film. I would highly recommend this space for any kind of shoot because it has a good amount of space including a conference room when available and the office is decorated well. They also have a nice swing so please take a swing!

This was a great location that fit our video's look and feel perfectly. The kitchen/dining space was a nice size for staging crafty and client working area, while the main shooting happened in the upstairs bedroom/bathroom. Home was left clean and tidy for us, and Amy gave us free roam of her home to work in all day. She made it easy for us from start to finish, and I would certainly recommend this spot to others!

Pros and Cons of Video Shoot Locations in San Francisco

Maybe you love San Francisco and the Bay Area for its spectacular mountainous background topography or its historical landmarks like the vast Ferry Building with its commanding clock tower. But before you book a location for photo shoots or video production, here are some things to consider about the city.

Pros

  • San Francisco has plenty of stunning film and video locations, from penthouses and cafes to theaters.

  • San Francisco provides incredible views and landmarks, such as Spanish Renaissance chateaus and natural beauty in the form of rolling hills. There's something for everyone.

  • San Francisco has great weather: think cool and crisp summers and pleasant winters.

Cons

  • San Francisco's terrain can be tricky with steep roads that are challenging to navigate.

  • There's bad traffic congestion, with the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge being the region's busiest bridge. It doesn't help that the city's a major tourism destination!

  • Although it has good weather, San Francisco can be foggy. This reduces visibility when taking videos.

What Kind of Venue Can I Rent for Video Shoots in San Francisco?

Whether you're interested in film production to get on the San Francisco film list, or you're looking for the ideal location for a live-streaming event, you'll find the best spot on Giggster's 695 listings.

Outdoor Venues – Spectacular Vistas. Do you love San Francisco's iconic Mark Bar with its panoramic views? If you want a unique location for a music video or film, book an outdoor venue like a patio or rooftop deck with stunning city views.

Theaters – Exciting Live Performances. When recording a live play or other performance, book an opulent theater space with features like an auditorium, stunning interiors, and backstage areas for your talent and crew.

Homes and Villas – Distinctive Sessions. You can find many houses with spectacular features to meet your romantic vision, such as arches, fine art, and rooms such as libraries or kitchens for shooting different scenes. Go for a luxury villa or mansion if you want to achieve a style similar to the InterContinental Mark Hopkins hotel.

Studios – Stunning Settings. If you want a fully-equipped venue, select a studio with props and sets. This will make it easier for you to plan amazing video content sessions according to the atmosphere you need.

Conference Rooms – Corporate Videos. When you need to film videos for your business brand, rent a conference room that's stylish and professional. Choose one with excellent lighting or large windows to bring in natural light.

How to Plan a Video Shoot in San Francisco

To ensure your video shoot is a magical journey, you'll want to do a little advanced planning. Here are some tips to help your creative session go off without a hitch.

Look for a Location with Layers – When searching for a venue from Giggster's 695 incredible event listings, look for different stories within the space. A location with history, stunning interiors, and amazing views gives you more layers for your scenes than a venue that only contains one of those features.

Capture the Blue Hour – You've heard of the golden hour in photography, but try to shoot a video at blue hour: this is just after sunset or before sunrise when the sky is blue and the lighting is cool. This is great for creative scenes while helping you avoid traffic or tourists.

Choose an Accessible Venue – To streamline your production, choose a venue within walking distance of transport services so it's easily accessible for your team. San Francisco is a walkable city, so it's easy to get around on foot.

Have a Plan B – Imagine you start your session, only for the weather to become foggy or rainy. It can ruin your shoot, especially if it's outdoors, so make sure you have a plan B. This could mean having a stunning indoor location on the same property.

How to Save Money on Your Video Shoot in San Francisco

With a few clever hacks, you can avoid hidden fees and high expenses when planning a video shoot. Stay within your budget without missing out on getting the perfect scenes.

Choose a venue with themed rooms.

Decorated event venues can reduce your need for props and sets. But, go one step further by booking a home or other event space that provides themed areas so you can just rock up and start recording your content.

Invest in light equipment.

Professional videographers and photographers know that it's essential to purchase cost-effective gear that doesn't weigh a lot, so it's easy to transport from one location to another. This will reduce your transport costs while preventing you from having to rent lighter equipment as required.

Shoot the same scene multiple times.

While it's a great feeling to get the scene you want in a single shot, it's not always realistic or possible. In fact, it could cause you to spend more than your budget allows. When you give your editor or client different options of the same shot, you prevent reshoots.
